Wool is a primary raw material that is used to make felt handicrafts. We get tons of inquiries from our customers on what kind of wool is used in our factory. In this article, we intend to give answers to such questions:
The source of wool we use is solely farm herd sheep. Farmers in New Zealand carefully herd sheep in order to collect wool which is later exported to Nepal. The wool arrives in a big cube of approximately 1 cubic meter and is carded in order to produce wool rolls. Such rolls are later treated with safe dyeing agents to give the required colors.
Some of our wool, especially natural varieties come from Tibet. The difference lies in thickness for NZ Wool and wool from other regions. NZ wool is approximately 29 to 34 microns and is used to produce regular white balls and colored balls whereas the Tibetan variety is thick and rough natural textured. We also use Merino wool of thickness 19 microns for special crafts.
